Ichiyouraifuku charm

This charm is offered after the shrine's Shinto priest has prayed for good luck, versatile power for financial success, terminating evil influence when experiencing difficulties, changing bad luck to good luck, and safety and good health throughout the year. It has long been offered at Katsuragihitokotonushi Shrine from 2 days before the winter solstice to Setsubun (the last day of winter).

This is a special charm started by Tonori Fujiwara in 1482 when he gathered Shinto priests, mountain ascetics, and their instructors from the wider region at the place of Kamikudachi, where the great deity Hitokotonushi appeared, to conduct a ritual for defeating evil spirits called Great deity Katsuragi-hitokotonushi Hitakikitousai. After the ritual, he received a divine message and prayed for Ichiyouraifuku at a wild nandina tree growing in the precincts. He gave worshippers its leaves and fruits as charms that demonstrated divinity and these worshippers subsequently thrived.

Ichiyouraifuku means when the negative side becomes strongest, the positive side comes back. In other words, even if misfortunes continue, eventually good luck returns.
